Welcome Message

There is a proverb within the African experience that best captures the role of our office of University Outreach and Engagement (UOE). “When spider webs unite, they can tie up a lion.” For me, it speaks to the human and interdisciplinary strengths across the university, and the collaborative efforts needed to Think and Do and Engage in the very critical work of addressing grand challenges and seemingly intractable problems. We do this work in the classroom, our research labs, and as we engage with community, industry and government partners.

As a Community-Engaged, Research-Extensive and Land Grant Institution, NC State embraces its responsibility to positively contribute to the well being of our local, regional, state, national and global communities. UOE is at the center of this mission. We engage the entire campus community by supporting and connecting faculty, staff, students and community partners committed to the well being of the institution and the communities we serve. Each of our initiatives is intentionally connected to fulfilling a Wolfpack 2030 university strategic goal as well as the implementation of the NC State Civic Action Plan.

As you will see from our “news” section, our outreach and engagement take many forms, from credit and non-credit courses to extension programs, from community service projects to board service, from hands-on field research to major forums and seminars. Through all these efforts, we bring the knowledge, insight, and energy of NC State to bear on the needs of our community, resulting in a higher quality of life, a stronger economy and a more equitable and just society.

As you browse our site, please consider the ways we can support your outreach and engagement work. Be sure to sign up with Collaboratory to be connected with colleagues, community partners and funders. Whether you are part of our Wolfpack community or just seeking ways to partner with our vast network of people and programs, let us know how we can help.

peace
